Cyber-Bees: the fusion of life and technology

Chinese scientists from the Beijing Institute of Technology have taken a giant leap in biorobotics by engineering the lightest insect brain controller ever made, weighing only 74 milligrams. Implanted with three micro-needles, this device allows precise control of bee movement using electrical impulses – achieving 90% accuracy. A breakthrough that blurs the line between biology and technology.

Une mission pour sauver des vies

These cyber-bees are far from sci-fi novelties. They could soon assist in locating survivors in disaster zones or performing military reconnaissance where human access is impossible. A micro army of insects, remotely controlled, ready to take flight in service of mankind.

Lightweight, precise, and revolutionary

This innovation outperforms its predecessors: the earlier Singaporean prototype was three times heavier and drained the bees’ energy quickly. With ultra-lightweight design and lower power usage, these enhanced bees could become the future of field missions. The results, published on June 11, 2025 in the Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering , mark a historic breakthrough.
