Sam Altman, the Man Behind ChatGPT, Bets on a Harmonious Future

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and a leading figure in technological innovation, has just unveiled his vision of what he calls the “harmonious singularity.” A bold, almost utopian philosophy that outlines a future where artificial intelligence, energy, and governance come together to transform our world.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and a leading figure in technological innovation, has just unveiled his vision of what he calls the “harmonious singularity.” A bold, almost utopian philosophy that outlines a future where artificial intelligence, energy, and governance come together to transform our world.

An Equation for the Future

For Altman, everything boils down to a simple formula:
Abundant intelligence + Abundant energy + Good governance = Everything else.

In other words, low-cost AI and cheap clean energy could lead to unprecedented prosperity. He even predicts that the cost of intelligence may soon be comparable to that of electricity. A single ChatGPT query? About 0.34 watt-hours, equivalent to one second of oven usage.

A visionary perspective at a time when hotel design studios in Marrakech, like M17, are already integrating AI into immersive creation and project optimization.

A New Social Contract

But this future requires a new pact. Altman proposes an “American Equity Fund,” a fund that annually redistributes shares and liquidity to all citizens. He also envisions a reversed taxation model—taxing capital more than labor.

He has already backed three-year-long universal basic income experiments. For him, AI must not deepen inequality, but give everyone a stake in growth. An approach that resonates with the strategic consulting and identity creation missions carried out by M17, which prioritize impact and sustainability.

The Energy Challenge

The other major issue: energy. Here are a few striking figures:
168 GW: projected energy demand for AI by 2027
327 GW: estimates for 2030
88 GW: global data center capacity in 2022

A fourfold increase in less than a decade. Altman is convinced: we need to electrify massively, smartly, and sustainably.

Two Vital Priorities

In his speech, two critical imperatives stand out:

  1. Solve alignment: Ensure AI systems follow human values in the long term. Altman cites social media algorithms as a cautionary tale.
  2. Democratize access: Prevent a superintelligence from being monopolized by any single entity—be it a country, company, or individual.

This same philosophy of sharing, equity, and collective intelligence is reflected in M17’s commitment to immersive content production and enhanced user experience—serving meaningful and ethical storytelling.

Altman’s Vision of the Future

“The future can be infinitely better than the present,” he says.

He speaks of annual breakthroughs in physics, space exploration, and brain-computer interfaces. But he remains clear-eyed: the real challenge won’t be the arrival of superintelligence… but how we manage it.

“May our path to superintelligence be smooth, exponential, and uneventful.”

A wish? A prophecy? In any case, it’s a vision worth reflecting on—for entrepreneurs, designers, and strategists who are already shaping the experiences of tomorrow.
